I recently discussed "deal breakers" with a friend.
I maintain my stance on my 'Harry Potter Deal breaker.'
I vehemently defend my choice that if I will not be compatible with a significant other who outwardly HATES Harry Potter. Just to make it clear, this is not someone who doesn't care one way or the other about Harry Potter, but rather, someone who cannot stand the concept of the magical world, a flying Ford Anglia, or that Herminone's patronus takes the shape of an otter. (yes I knew that off the top of my head)
I love Harry Potter. He's been in my life for 13 years. No romantic interest can beat that...
I even celebrate Harry Potter's birthday (July 31st). I've found people to celebrate with me fairly easily. But they're a little more hesitant on July 30th for Neville's, September 19th for Hermione's or March 1st for Ron's.
When he questioned my celebration of Harry Potter's birthday, I retorted, "we celebrate Jesus's birthday on December 25th, and that's not even his birthday."
"Did you just compare Harry Potter to Jesus?" he questioned me in a near state of shock.
Yes, Yes I did.
Another confession: I've been to a Harry Potter convention. In London!
ok ok. So I didn't go to London for the convention. I went for a research project with a professor, and there happened to be a gathering of MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron on the Saturday that I was going to be there. I couldn't NOT go.
It also happened to be the opening of Daniel Radcliff in Equus. Yeah. That show about the boy and the horse. Yeah. You remember right, where HP bares all. Yep, I got a ticket and went. (The play was ok, not worth all the hype).
But this is a fact. If you HATE Harry Potter, I just do not understand how we will be compatible.
He then asked me, if I had two people were basically the same in every way, but one was a HP fan, but not a member of the LDS church, and the other detested HP, but was a member of the the LDS church, would I pick the non-member Potter fan?
(First, I think that premise is ridiculous, how could they be the same in every way except those two facts? They seem to be very defining aspects of someone's character)
I said I'd go with the non-LDS HP fan.
He was completely flabbergasted.

This made me chuckle :)
Literally had this conversation last night:
"Just looking for a hot, intelligent, funny, hardworking man matching my social, political and religious beliefs. Not asking for much. Would prefer a multicultural background. He can be allergic to cats and have a bad last name if he's all of that."
