The Unwritten Code

Friday morning I was driving on a road that has five lanes and seems as though the speed limit should be at least 45 mph when in fact it is only 35 mph. The perfect place for a speed trap.

Well, as I was driving to work at 7:30am I sped along at the usual 45 mph pace. Then a car flashed its lights at me and I immediately slowed down. Sure enough a motorcycle cop was waiting for me, but luckily this other driver knew the unwritten code of warning other drivers of speed traps and helped me out this fateful morning. (Also lucky that I knew the code and slowed down instead of thought that my headlight was out or something.)

This brings to mind a few questions:

1. What other unwritten codes are there?
2. How did this unwritten code get started?
3. How can I petition to get the speed limit increased to 45 mph?
