I thought I preferred brutally honest

I mentor a 5th grader once a week through a law school mentoring program. I'd like to preface this story by saying it is my favorite hour of the week! Today we had our "mock trial." 5th graders are so funny. First there were 8 jurors, 5 boys and 3 girls, but two rows of 4. 1 boy refused to sit down. [it wasn't obvious as to why] When the teacher told the him to just put an extra chair on the other row, it all made sense. He didn't want to sit with the girls...

But then, after the trial, I was talking to the girl that I mentor and we were just talking about what she learned ("nothing" was the response) and if she liked it ("it was ok"). Then I changed the topic to if she did anything fun over the weekend, go for a bike ride, etc. She told me that in her neighborhood they play "night games." So I asked oh, like Ghost in the Graveyard. She then responded, "that game is so old, we played that last year" [oops! my bad!]. She then said, "You're so old, and you're single. And old, single women are WEIRD!" ... gee thanks... Then, "are you dating anyone?" ... well, no... "have you ever dated anyone?" ... [the answer to that question is yes, in case you wanted to know... a short list, but still a yes]

Man alive! I'm 23 and a spinster... where are my cats? This is exactly why I love living at BYU so much... They get it in your head early that you're abnormal if you're not married by 20...

But honestly, it was just so funny! I was dying laughing! She makes me laugh so much!

Other highlights from the mock trial:
- one lawyer questioning a witness "Are you telling the truth because you are Tony's best friend and would do anything to make sure he is not guilty, so are you telling the truth?"
- in the closing argument: "Is holding a stone in your hand the same as throwing a stone? NO!"
- When the jury read their verdict, the Plaintiff fell over in his chair (on purpose)

That is hilarious!

I guess it's time for me to get my first kitten?! I thought I'd have at least another few years before it came to that... :)

hehe... it is a little depressing when she said that, but it was just so funny too!
