The REAL Reasons Why I Should Get Married

I've been thinking about all these posts floating around Facebook about what marriage is really about. So after skimming one of them, I decided I should write down some solid reasons why I want to get married. You know, to really think about what I want and then make a plan to get there. So this is what I've come up with so far... I guess I'm not sure if marriage is really for me. But maybe in the next 15 years I'll figure it out.

Reasons why I should get married:
1. So I no longer have to sleep on the pull out couch when everyone else gets a real bed on family vacations.
2. So I can afford a 1 bedroom apartment in DC. (I long for the days of becoming a D.I.N.K.)
3. So someone else can take the trash out, dust, and do laundry.
4. So I don't have to cook for 1 (or every day).
5. So someone else can change the smoke detector battery when it goes off at 11:45 pm on a Tuesday night.
6. So someone can accompany me to  the things I want to do in DC that no one really wants to do with me.
7. So I can justify buying furniture and artwork that I want.
8. So I can likely double or triple my DVD collection.
9. So I can stop being asked if I'm seeing anyone.
10. So I can finally learn how to dance.

They Knew the WHOLE Time...

Well, I didn't get a photo of their reaction or tonight's 12 "drummers drumming." I went over to my neighbors' house and gave them a box of 12 mini drumstick ice cream cones. (Pretty nice random gift if I say so myself). And they totally weren't surprised and didn't react. They knew it was me!

I guess when they gave the non-description to my roommate, they knew she was poking around for me and they didn't want me to know that they knew. Sad day. But it was still fun anyway. I think they still had fun because they had no idea what was coming. It was fun and creative, and it kept my mind off of finals for a few minutes each day.

I had a nice long chat with them about random stuff. When one of them told me that he was getting a big kid job and that he was just going to continue living the college life and make tons of money and then quit his job after a year or two and live off the money he saved and then get a new job and do it all over again. I promptly told him to grow up.

He said, "I'll get married when you get married."

What?! I meant don't act like an immature kid when you have to move on in life. I didn't say anything about getting married.*

... someone is afraid of commitment

*And it's not like I'm avoiding getting married, it's avoiding me.

Not so subliminal messages

Yesterday I went to see "The Taming of the Shrew" that was done by BYU students. The show was really fun, and really funny. However, one thing (well actually many things) really bugs me about Provo. I know the LDS culture is all about marriage and families and that it is important, but can't you just let people breathe a little? Marriage is everywhere and there is no escaping it...

For example, in the programs that they handed out, there were advertisements. I'm used to seeing restaurants or upcoming plays advertised... Well, in Provo, this is what you get:

Do we really need these advertisements and coupons? I understand that I'm talking to the wall, but it still really bugs me...
