So Close

Michigan basketball was relevant this season for what seemed like the first time in 20 years. When I attended Michigan, I got free tickets (once a year, if that) and had my choice of a mostly empty Crisler Arena. I loved my time at the University of Michigan, and I love the camaraderie that develops around sports.

This is a photo I took while in Philadelphia at the end of March
To prepare for the big game, I decided to do some meditation. I figured that I would be able to bolster 19 year old boys’ basketball skills by spending some time connecting to my inner being.

My fellow UM alum, Alex, and I gearing up for the game
I was convinced to gather with some friends for the ridiculously late start time for someone watching in the Eastern Time Zone and has work the next day.

Unfortunately, things don’t always go as we hope. In the first half, as Spike was heating up, I felt elation and that the team would pull off a victory for the maize and blue.

And yet, when the clock ticked those last few seconds, this is how I felt:
My actual knee and bruise I sustained playing soccer.
I don't want to know what my body's going to be like in 20 years.
(this is not a rare look for me)
Completely bruised.

I will live to watch another game. And hopefully we will win another National Championship. Hail!
